Dear Friends,

Holiday Weekend - Happy 4th of July!
We will be open Friday and Saturday this weekend. We have berries fermenting and lots of seating available for picnics. Please stop by to taste the new 2007 Cabernet Franc. It is sure to be a blockbuster.

State of the Business Address
As we continue to grow in this industry, we learn more and more about what we do, what we like to do, what we are good at, and what takes away from what we are good at. I know that for this business to succeed, I need to focus on growing grapes and making wine. Nobody else can do this for me as I have spent my career learning to do this the best way I can. The more wines I make and the more grapes I grow, I learn even more about how to do it better. With this having been said, the state of the business is sound and growing every month. But, I am looking to be less involved in the tasting room and sales as I need to be very focused this summer and fall to make the best wine I can.

Starting Sunday July 13, we will be open on Sundays, noon until 5pm. This schedule will continue through October. We are doing this because sooner or later we need to accept that this is a business, and that if we are turning away business on Sundays, we cannot make the improvements needed here to make wine more efficiently, to employ the people we need to make this function and also increase production enough to balance on a comfortable and sustainable plateau. You may see a little less of Colleen and I in the tasting room, but we are dead set on doing this without burning out.

We are also going to be open on the weekends for U-Pick Raspberries. We have not set this up yet but we will be making this easy for our customers as well as for ourselves. This will start in the next few weeks with the Polana varietal. Don’t worry, we will have plenty of berries for the Raspberry Merlot and for the new Black Raspberry Surprise.

July 26th, 5pm til dark - Annual Evening Picnic and Vintage Tasting
Be sure to come out and enjoy this event. Bring a dish to pass, as we will have corn, sausages and hot dogs to eat along with plenty of soccer, music and a few fireworks. Come and celebrate the middle of summer with us.

August 17th, 2pm - Home Winemakers Class
This is a class for intermediate to advanced home winemakers to help define problems and make better wine this year and for years to come. We will also have some fruit available again this year. Please contact us for reservations.

Come visit us on Sundays starting July 13th, and pick a few berries while you are here!

A NEW CULINARY ARTS EXCURSION GROUP IS OFFERING CULINARY DAY TRIPS TO MIDDLEBURG AND RURAL LOUDOUN COUNTY FOR WINE, FOOD, AND COOKING ENTHUSIASTS - TRANSPORTATION INCLUDED

Lovettsville, VA – Good Taste! Tours (GTT), a culinary arts excursion company, announced today that it is offering culinary day trips to scenic, rural Virginia for wine and cooking enthusiasts. In addition to its local culinary weekend getaways, GTT now offers “A Food and Wine Excursion of Rural Virginia” and “A Culinary Day in Middleburg.” These tours will explore the food and wine of each region through unique wine-tastings and pairings with foods made from fresh, local ingredients. GTT has partnered with Reston Limousine to offer transportation for both tours from the West Falls Church Metro station and Dulles Town Center, and the transportation cost is included in the tour price. Anyone over the age of 21 who enjoys learning about the food and wine of a region is welcome to participate in these day trips.

“A Food and Wine Excursion of Rural Virginia” will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2008. The first stop on this epicurean adventure to Loudoun County will be Fabbioli Cellars. Owner, Doug Fabbioli, will give an educational tour of his vineyard and winery and, in collaboration with Chef-in-residence, Aaron Daniels, will tantalize participants’ taste-buds utilizing Fabbioli wines and appetizers prepared with fresh ingredients from the local farmers market.

According to Andrea Falzarano, President of GTT: “This day trip excursion is a great way to experience some of rural Loudoun’s finest wine and cuisine and enjoy the gorgeous scenery to boot.”

From Fabbioli Cellars, the tour will continue to Patowmack Farm, a working organic farm and restaurant in Lovettsville, VA. They will be treated to an organic farm presentation followed by a salad and entrée prepared by Chef Christian Evan, who is known for his imaginative, unique cuisine using the farm’s harvest to guide the menu selections. The restaurant has won numerous awards and was noted by Gourmet Magazine as a great American restaurant.

Finally, the dessert portion of the tour will take place at Notaviva Vineyards, a new Loudoun winery that has just finished bottling its first wine and already won a gold award. Here tourists will try Notaviva’s wines in a wine tasting and pairing with bite size desserts provided by Savoir Fare.

Each tour is limited to 20 people. The cost of the Rural Virginia tour is $140 per person and participants must register by July 18, 2008. To register, visit www.goodtastetours.com or call 540.822.5000 for more information.
