Dear Friends,

Where did April go?
I was supposed to write this newsletter a month ago but never found the time.  Well, I guess the season is upon us.  We have planted 800 new vines of Cabernet Sauvignon, Tannat, Merlot, and Petit Verdot.  We also have planted more native trees for here and for future sales.  There is plenty of land, and trees are always a good thing.  The grass is growing like crazy, there is lots of rain to feed all the plants, and the vines are exploding with new growth.  As long as we can avoid a frost this spring, we are off to a great growing season.

Food and Wine Pairing
A special thanks to all who helped the food and wine pairing happen on April 19th.  The event was a great success - lots of opportunities to fine tune and improve the process.  An apology to Catherine, we will get you in next time for sure.  As we are a small operation, we have limited space and resources.  Planning and execution are critical.  Kinda like growing grapes and making wine without buckets of money.

Opportunities
We are looking for a little help this season.  I have been organizationally challenged and hope to be better this year.  Anyone interested in helping us in the tasting room, or at a wine festival, please contact me at vinofab@aol.com.  I WILL create a database of interested people.  I WILL contact people in a timely fashion with pertinent information.  I WILL be better managed to give these people the illusion that I am more than just a flake that likes to make wine and play on the farm.  Also, we have some plants that we grew last year available for anyone looking to expand their landscape.  Some small trees but mostly shrubs of Aralia, Spirea and Japanese Quince.  These have great colors and grew pretty well last year even in the drought.  They are potted up and ready to take home at $17 each or 3 for $45.

Hiddencroft Vineyards Grand Opening May 3rd and 4th
Congratulations to Clyde and Terry Housel for making their dream come true.  I have been using Hiddencroft fruit in my award winning wines both under my label and others for years.  It is exciting to see them use their fruit for themselves.  Tucked away in the northwest corner of the county outside of Lovettsville, Hiddencroft has a lot of potential to be a real success for the industry.  With just the right balance of personality, reality, and ambition, Clyde and Terry will have a great chance at success implementing their endless energy and quality efforts.  Visit Hiddencroft this weekend, on one of their other scheduled weekends, or at the new Great Falls Farmer’s Market.  Enjoy variety! www.hiddencroftvineyards.com

North Gate Express!
It is always amazing to me how a small thing blossoms into a bigger, great thing and how quickly it can happen.  Mark and Vicki Fedor had been working with Corcoran Vineyards since their start up in 2003.  They made some changes 6 months ago, planned and unplanned, starting their own winery and selling some wine through Fabbioli here and at the market.  The reception has been strong, the season is here, and the next layers of the blossom are showing.  We will soon have the 2007 North Gate Chardonnay here.  Also, Mark and Vicki will have their wines and some of the Fabbioli wines at Farmer’s Markets in Purcellville, Falls Church and Cascades.  Be sure to follow this fine blossom to the next level.  Get more information at www.northgatevineyard.com.  Making great wine is too much fun to keep as a hobby.

Farmer’s Market Information
There is a new Farmer’s Market coming to Ashburn, in the parking lot near the Home Depot, Saturday Mornings 8am-noon starting June 7th and Fabbioli Cellars is planning on being there.  This is a great location filling a huge need for all you folks in Ashburn.  We will be transferring the Purcellville market to North Gate, but remember that we will be able to carry each others wines.  If you have a certain wine that you want, we can have it at the market for you.  The mantra of our syndicate is to please the customer and to help the other wineries that help you.

Dinner plans?
May 22- One Block West Winemaker Dinner Don’t forget to sign up with Ed Matthews, Chef and Owner at One Block West in Winchester for the Fabbioli Winemaker Dinner.  This is a great opportunity to dine local, and know craftsmanship.  www.oneblockwest.com.

June 4 - American Flatbread Winemaker Dinner Try the different flavors that can come out of the wood fired stone oven.  This is creative dining with a very traditional base and strong local focus.  Call for a reservation at 703-723-7003.

June 21 - Winemaker BBQ Dinner at Fabbioli Cellars Chef Aaron will be calling on his southern roots to build a casual dinner around the Fabbioli wines and what is fresh off the farm that day.  Our master of organization, Doug, will be taking reservations at vinofab@aol.com.   Lots to do and try.  Take the step to treat yourself and share in what we do.

End Note
As the efforts that have been made by myself, my family, other wineries and by you come into fruition, the pride shines.  This is not ego pride, but the strong pride of making things a little better, a little greener, a little more local and healthier in body, land and spirit.  Congratulations to all for making efforts to think a little more, reach a little more and survive a little better than before.  Sorry to get a little sappy but there it is.

Doug, Colleen, Matt and Sammy
