Dear Friends,

Keeping you informed: Hi there. I met a whole new group of people at the Lucketts Antique Store this past weekend. Thanks so much for stopping by and showing your interest in our wines and business. As many of you can tell, I am kind of passionate about making good wines, sharing them and helping my fellow wineries in the area do the same. My Emails are kind of an endless journal of what I am doing along with acknowledgements, goals and upcoming events. Do not be afraid to Email back with questions or corrections.

I have been getting some great feedback on our wines and emails, so I am trying my best to keep up with both. Here is an update on what is brewing here:

Political: We are cautiously optimistic regarding the bills to regain our rights to self-distribute. The Senate bill has made it out of committee and to the floor for readings. The House bill has made it through the House and is now in the hands of the Senate. We still have a distance to go, but the current imbalance of the situation is well known by both the politicians and their constituents.

Fabbioli Open House: Our next open house is February 18th at the farm. Like so many things, these events are always being evaluated and adjusted to fit your needs and make them work better. We will have our tasting bar downstairs focus on new tastings and pairings. Upstairs we will have space for folks to enjoy a glass with the chocolate dishes and other foods. As always we are trying to find the balance between business and pleasure with these events. It seems like most people enjoy the pleasurable business that we have. That is the goal. Thanks so much for supporting us through your patronage.

Loudoun Winegrowers: This past week I was elected President of the Loudoun Wine Growers Association (LWGA). This organization is composed of mostly growers with a few smaller wineries involved. Our main efforts are: to develop better recognition of the region and industry, to take positions with our government representatives that affect our industry and to develop educational events and information to improve our quality along with our surrounding growers. To see our progress, periodically log onto www.loudounwine.com.

Green Economy: I have become a member of the Loudoun County Rural Economic Development Committee. The goal of this group is to clarify the needs of this important part of the county. By having a rural economy, it will balance against the development by giving landowners alternatives to selling. We have been looking at the farmers markets, farm tours, wine trails and other ways for our residents and visitors to spend their money on locally, rurally grown and produced products. This seems to put value on who you are buying from as well as what you are buying and how much it costs. I like to think that most people will buy locally if the products are good, the value is sound and it is relatively convenient to do so.

Events:

February 9-11 Mom’s Pies in Leesburg: Taste and buy for Valentine’s Day.
February 11 Home Winemaking Seminar, 2-4:30pm. Still a few spots left.
February 18 Open House at the Farm, noon-5pm. Bring some chocolate foods or taste some of ours. Pairing red wines with chocolate can be quite the experience.
February 24 Dormant Pruning Seminar at the Farm, 1pm. This program is a free program put on by the LWGA and the Loudoun extension office. I will teach but contact Leslie at lblischa@vt.edu for more info and to sign up.
Every Saturday Farmers' Market in Leesburg, 10 am- 1pm.
Next Time: I will give you a longer calendar for the year including wine festivals and open house dates for the year. I guess that means that I need to make a plan. I always try to make room for off site tastings, seminars, and other opportunities to share what I do with those who might appreciate it. Thanks so much for what you do.
